Montana Secretary of State
The Office of the Montana Secretary of State has received $1.5 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds to assist in modernizing the office’s infrastructure in order to better meet customers’ business needs. The dollars provide a means to take the first step in replacing multiple, aging computer systems with a single system.
The Secretary of State Information Management System (SIMS) will replace more than 20 disparate systems – including one critical system that was developed in 1979. The outdated applications are costly, paper-based and labor-intensive. Each runs a high risk of failure. Modernizing the office’s infrastructure to include one web-based system will positively impact nearly 150,000 entities that do business in Montana.
Benefits include:
- Flexible payment options
- Convenient document handling
- Secure access to information
- Standardized accounting and auditing
- Improved office communications
SIMS supports Secretary of State Linda McCulloch’s mission to provide customers prompt and accurate services. The project was submitted to the 61st Montana Legislature as part of the Long Range Information Technology Program, which is funded in HB645. The $1.5 million dollars of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds were made available by the Federal Stimulus Act.
