Long Range Information Technology Program

The Long Range Information Technology Program is a comprehensive and prioritized plan for the state’s major investments in information technology resources.  The administration’s plan was presented in House Bill 10.  Funding for certain approved projects was ultimately provided in House Bill 645 using $6,000,000 of state general funds made available by the Federal Stimulus Act. 

These projects are briefly described below:

Department of Administration
Interoperability Montana Public Safety Radio
State & Other = $1,000,000
Stimulus = 0

The Interoperability Montana (IM) public safety radio project was appropriated $1,000,000 of state general fund to continue the build-out of the Interoperability Montana public safety radio system to regions in central and eastern Montana, with future impact on other areas of the state.   The funding will be used for matching funds for federal grants to leverage the money to it’s maximize potential.

The IM Project is led by a board of directors consisting of nine local and three state agencies, with local, tribal, state and federal non-voting partner groups. All 56 counties and 7 tribes are members, in addition to most state agencies that utilize radios. Over the past four years, the IM group has led deployment of equipment and services to improve interoperable communications.

State of Montana Data Center Relocation and Equipment

The new State of Montana Data Centers in Helena and Miles City are expected to be ready for occupancy by January, 2010. This proposal provides ITSD with one-time-only funding for relocating existing IT equipment and services to the new facilities and establishing the communications required to operate a second facility in Miles City.

Business Services System Initiative or SIMS

The Secretary of State received $1,500,000 of state general funds to assist in replacing aging and disparate business registration systems with an integrated, streamlined and configurable web-based system to meets customers’ and internal users’ business needs efficiently and effectively.
